Deforestation
The deforestation that is happening due to the beef industry in yet another reason to think about reducing the consumption of beef. The image on the right shows how much grazing land each source of protein needs in order to be produced as compared to soy. Again, while I am not suggesting we all need to become vegetarians, the information is important to show how much grazing land is needed to produce the same amount of protein. By reducing the amount of protein we consume in the form of beef, we can greatly diminish the amount of deforestation that is needed to supply the current demand.

The graph on the right shows the alarming rate of deforestation in correlation to cattle herding. As you can see, the amount of deforestation has been rising over years in direct relation to the beef industry. Reducing demand by consuming less beef will decrease the need for clearing trees to produce land for grazing. Deforestation is especially important because of the impact trees have on the air we breath. Trees create oxygen for us to breath. They also reduce the carbon dioxide that is in the air. Trees not only create the air we breath but clean it as well. Without them, the air will continue to become more and more polluted.
